I think it must be horrible for him to be that big. Breaking chairs would be mortifying.
I would try and find a cheep second hand, really sturdy wood chair....like something pre-1990s and take it up there and call it the "Bob" chair (or whatever his name it).

My brother is like this. He's broken so many toilet seats and chairs its not even funny. My mom designated a chair for him at her house but he still sits in other chairs. When he visited my house earlier this year he broke our toilet seat and recliner so he spent a lot of time on the floor. I feel bad for him but its expensive for anyone to have him visit. I'd have your DH offer him a special chair to sit on and let him know the patio furniture isn't stable.

Oh and he broke my passenger chair in my car. Luckily it was still under warranty but now I dread letting him in my car.

Maybe this is dumb.....what types of chairs/furniture does he have at home?

Sorry, seems like a tough spot, Bob sounds like a gem, I don't know alotta men who could/would raise 5 grand baby's
