Woah Nelly! So that is what ammonia smells like!

We have run a few clean cycles on the washer, with mixed results. I may run another overnight though again. So the first batch of diapers washed with the Target stuff is in the dryer. It took 2 extra washes with nothing to rinse the detergent out. Although it is unscented, it does have a 'smell' to it, and even after 2 extra full washes, I can still smell it a bit. I think the funky smell is gone though. Crossing fingers! And I learned that with this detergent, I need to use a lot less than I am used to with the Tide.

In this case it might be old detergent.. I thought that the Target stuff was very high sudding at first. I actually dismissed it as a CD washing choice because I got sooo many suds with it when I first tried it... Then when I finially ran out of the dreft I had (rather small box) I decided to give this another try because I didn't wan to go buy more and the dreft wasn't really ideal eaither.. Thats when I had a totally diffrent experience not more excessive suds and nively clean diapers, Ive actually been able to add detergent to the 2 line for a load up to 18 diapers. I do double wash always have one with detergent one without but everything is rinsing out great. I do believe my machine had to work out past detergents.

oh for the towels are you washing hot or cold? I really have to wash all my towels on hot or they get funky.

I am washing towels on hot. I agree, anything but hot just does not cut it with towels.

Interesting about the sudsing. I did not notice extra suds so much as just a leftover detergent smell on the diapers that I did not have with Tide. But everything is soooo much cleaner now, I will take the lingering detergent smell.

Used to be I could smell towel 'funk' as soon as I opened the dryer. Totally gone. There is a slight hint of 'funk' smell still, but it is much improved. I have a feeling it will improve with additional washings without Tide.

And someone local had a theory that Tide changed their other formulas so people would switch to their new pods. They were having Tide issues as well.

What is weird is I have never had an ammonia problem before. I did have massive stink once, but that was because I bought into the whole "stink=too much detergent" hype and was not using enough. Once I started using more, things were all better, except for that 'off' smell in all our laundry. But I never had issues with ammonia, or problems with LO getting red from the diapers at all. The ammonia hit totally out of the blue.

So far though, all the diapers that have gone through with the Target detergent have not had ammonia. Just smelled strongly of pee (and a hint of detergent). I think I must have a super sensitive sniffer to still be able to smell unscented detergent.

And my 6yo's diapers still reek, but they just smell like super stinky 6yo pee.

Hoping that things continue to work well with the new detergent. Will keep you posted!

I used tide for years with out issues and I used tide with bleach with 100% success when my current was a newborn (where her skin should be most sensitive) but then they changed formula and weve had evental issues come up every time.

who hoo! I'm still loveing the stuff too, sometimes I get soem light staining if the diaper was pretty icky to start with. Like when she gets those dark sticky tar like diapers We had one in the last bath it came out smelling great and way cleaner but not totally stain free its sunning right now and it was the ONLY thing that showed some staining, however more imprtant and the msot important thing for me is my DD skin has been WONDERFUL even the few times a messy diaper has gone unchecked we have almost no redness and nothign a bit of baby powder and a new diaper wouldn't cure..
My old tide made the diapers brighter now that Ive used this a while I do see a little difference in that regard but they are smelling fantastic, stains are virtually non existant and DD skin is amazingly clear. Its doing a great job on our other clothes, I do notice if its a heavy dirt/mud soiled load I do need to boost the detergent, so I'm adding some borox in with DH clothes (gardening) ans sometiems towels if the girls have dragged any outdoors. Its great though on all the general toddler spills takes out chocolate milk great something tide was jsut so so on. and that is an every hour on the hour stain these days.
I'ma almsot out so I hope to get more tommorow I'll serious cry if they are out..
