S/O Quirky Holiday Traditions

The other thread got me thinking what are your Quirky holiday traditions?

For us it's Chinese food on Christmas Eve, it started because the Chinese restaurant was the only one open in the small town that my DH and I grew up in and when I would go over to his house for Christmas Eve, his mom wanted to not cook that night (she cooked enough for an army every other night of the year and this was the one day she wanted to chill) so they would go pick up Chinese food. The first time I participated was the second year we dated (I was 16, yep HS sweethearts) and I just thought it was so cool. So now even though MIL has passed and we don't always get together with his family that night, we always get Chinese food and of course remember my wonderful MIL.

I don't cook on Christmas Day. We put out a buffet of finger foods and goodies and you eat what ever you want, when ever you want. Everyone, including me, gets to just sit back and relax all day. The kids always talk about getting to pick their own food all day long on Christmas Day instead of us telling them what they are going to eat.

Since middle school my best freind growing up and I go out to lunch on Christmas eve. As we have moved on with our lives we have drifted apart. We keep in touch via facebook but our Christmas eve lunch is the only time we actually get together anymore. After our Christmas eve lunch my son and I go home and make a fresh batch of cookies for Santa. We have done this since he was a baby.

DH's family's Christmas eve tradition is to have pizza. They would usually order out and then go to midnight mass. We have started inviting friends (mostly ones with no family near like us) over for make your own pizza night at our house.

My family has many holiday traditions, some quirkier than others. For example, My aunt has made her signature Chex Mix for Christmas Eve every year I can remember. She sends us all home with goodie bags of it. She pretty well hates making it now, but will make it for us every year because we all love it.

Our quirky tradition is that my mother buys us all pajamas for Christmas every year, and it is always the first gift we open, then we all go put them on and open the rest of our gifts in our new pajamas. <3
