Agreed. It's one thing to call someone a dumb a$$ but using the word "retard" is just beyond unprofessional, and immature.

I worked as a CSR for Cingular way back in the day when it was still Pac Bell Wireless. Venting about a customer was usually done on break, not while the customer was on the phone. Too many people around, always the chance QA was auditing the call, and obviously, always the chance your mute button wasn't working. We had the mute button on the phone plus a mute switch on the headset, and would double mute sometimes if we absolutely didn't want QA overhearing.

I'm glad you escalated the call! That was totally uncalled for and it would not shock me if the rep lost her job.
