I am making a fish costume for DD (almost 2). I am using a too small (but not uncomfortable) hooded sweatshirt from last year and stained leggings. They are both fuschia in color. I bought felt squares from hobby lobby to make the scales. And adhesive because I don't want to sew. It was $12 with the glue.

This was the tutorial I used:

Mine is pink and yellow, more oval scales, and a slightly different arrangement of scales.

Just in case someone wants more ideas.

Re: halloween costumes.. easy, cheap, handmade?

For the angry bird you can do a hooded towel style cape. I made one for ds for Xmas last year. Like this:

Then wear plain colored sweats that match... Which is nice since they can be used as regular clothes after Halloween.

We are doing Mario and lungi this year... Goodwill overalls and tshirts and I'm making floppy fleece hats. Gold felt buttons stuck on the buckles for halloween. Cheap and normal clothing for after Halloween.

For the Sonic costume can you dye some old clothes he has blue? Or buy some really cheap vest and long underpants in blue/dye them? I know they go really cheap at Target and Walmart. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Fruit-Of-T...r-Set/17037973 (there is a plain blue set). Or better still, if you can find a one piece in blue (I saw a red on walmart's website). For the white chest piece simply sew a piece of flesh coloured felt on, or staple cardboard on. Cut off the arms. Red tape for the shoes as someone suggested. Long socks rolled over to make the fat sock part (maybe even 2 pairs to make a double roll like in the pictures) and I'm stumped on the gloves.

Make-up on the face and food dyed blue hair in spikes with gel.

ETA: It would look kind of like this guy, only not a headpiece: http://www.wtfcostumes.com/sonic_the...og_costume.php
