Newborn Diaper Rentals

Has anyone done these? I have a friend I'm trying to convert to cloth, but she is understandably reluctant to dive into one type of diaper. I thought she might benefit from a rental program while she's figuring out what she likes. Are they worth it? Would it just be cheaper to buy a few different types and sell what she doesn't like? Any advice/recommendations appreciated!

My Mood:
Yes! I did it and it was WONDERFUL. There are lots of stores and each has their own terms so you have to research a bit.

The one I did was through a store called one lucky mama. They had a mix it up package that gave me 4 of a bunch of diapers. I had lil joeys, bg aio nb, fb pockets, tiny tush, happy heinys, and prefolds ad covers. I really liked that I got to try so many and find my style. (and realize that I hate fb which I so thought I would love)

The way their rental worked was that you pay up front and then they give you a store credit when you return the diapers. You can use the credit to buy your stash. I ended up paying $60 for the rental and trying out a bunch of brands. If I had hated CDs I could have used my store credit for other baby stuff.

If I did it all over again I might have looked for something different in my rental company. The store I used didn't do reward points and didn't have a huge selection of brands to choose from when I went to use my credit.

Knowing what I know now I would go through Kissed by the moon. They had an option that gave me too much control, too much choice. At the time I didn't know what to pick and I was nervous, but if I had a CDing friend that could have walked me through the choices I would have felt better.

IMO my rental was worth it. I learned how to cd without risk.

Re: Newborn Diaper Rentals

We offer a rental program. I think it is THE way to start with cloth. The variety package is the most popular by far, because you get to try all the different kinds and decide which one you like best. Your deposit for the rental go towards the purchase of your full time stash when you're done! And if you don't like it, you get your deposit back, it's really win win.

I used a rental from
The changing table. They gave you a full time variety stash. You pay $250 and its a 3 month rental. At the end you get back $150 cash. I'd you decide to buy, I think the items you try can be bought at 10% off. I liked it! If your newbie outgrows the rental early, your rate is prorated.
