joining you ladies I've been lurking for a while. I hit the 12wk mark on Saturday & have my 1st MW appointment tomorrow (I do homebirths). I've got a little belly, so people I see on a daily basis have been told. I'm not out on facebook & I'm not sure when I'll do that yet. Looking forward to hearing a little heartbeat tomorrow.

Okay this is my first time around at this... but someone please explain to me why it seems to be practically a sin to be pregnant and want attractive clothing.

I started looking at mat clothing last weekend... Pants aren't overly painful... though half of them seem to add an extra month or two to my pregnancy. I HATE 95% of the tops. The drapey look is just not what i"m looking for... maybe when I actually have a big belly. Right now... NO.

And then there's a matter of a coat... it's hovering around freezing and snowing here. The midweight fall coats the maternity stores here have are just not going to cut it... not now and most definatly not in January.

I swear the next person who says anything along the lines of "oh just buy a few sizes up/plus size who cares what it looks like" is going to die. I CARE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. I already feel fat and icky why on earth would i want to get clothing that make look me worse too.

I remember my first time maternity shopping and feeling absolutely overwhelmed. Even with the fake belly they give you to try on with, everything seemed like it would never fit right. I ended up leaving buying nothing. When I finally really didn't fit into anything at home, I made my way back, and somehow those clothes fit and looked way better.

As for cute maternity clothes, they are out there. I had the best luck at Kohl's and JC Penny for casual wear over Motherhood Maternity. I also have a lot of non-maternity shirts that I just bought a size larger that looked and worked great.

What type of clothes are you looking for? I stay at home, so I do not have business wear, so maybe another has some tips for that. Good luck! And I hope your next trip goes a lot better.

I just got home from my midwife appt today. So excited to hear the heartbeat! 165 Now it seems a bit more real, if you know what I mean, just in case the horrible morning/ all day sickness meant nothing, lol.

Totally kwym. I guess that's a good thing about getting a decent bump fairly quick - I start fitting in mat stuff I've been in mat jeans since 6-8 weeks, but I just started getting my mat shirts out. I like wearing my normal shirts and t's, but I also found some fitted (read: not flowy and tent-like) mat shirts at Thyme Maternity and Old Navy.

I'm scared reading your description of the winter jackets out there! I really am going to need a good, warm jacket (-40 is really darn cold!). I managed (barely) to get through the winters in my normal jacket with Isaac and Levi... but seriously... barely. I don't think there's any way I can get through with an april baby!

I totally know what you mean! I keep getting this feeling that I've been throwing up and feeling awful for nothing! It was so reassuring to hear the heartbeat!

Yesterday I spent 6 hours in the emergency room. The morning sickness got out of hand again and I got dehydrated and couldn't keep anything down. It took them 9 tries by 3 different nurses to get the IV in. I'm covered in bruises today, but feeling much better!!

Poor thing! Mine isn't as bad as that, and not the worst I've ever had, but it's never fun. I hope you will be over it VERY soon!

Yeah for heartbeats! Boo for morning sickness.

As for maternity clothes--I feel like they are always so cute and stylish when I am not pregnant and the moment I get preggers they put out the ugliest clothes!
