9" would never work for my feet, they're like 7.5" around at the widest point. I tried some 8" at sock summit but I hated them. The grip is nothing like longer needles, I've actually never met anyone that liked that small. It's ok though, I somehow manage to keep expanding my sock needle collection without touching the short circumference circs LOL.

I hear you. They are like tooth picks, but shorter.

I've learned a few of those lessons... One was my toddler at the time knocked my crocheting longies off the couch. He tried to pull then back up by the working yarn. He pulled out over 6 inches of ROWS of work. I cried!
Another was when my little guy started chopping into a skein of yarn with scissors. It was snipped in random spots spill the way through! Completely unuseable.
I'm always scared to death my little terror will cut woollies I'm working on. :shudder:
