Some questions for atheists, and some for Christians.

I consider myself mostly an atheist. When I first realized that I just didn't have any Christian beliefs, I worried/wondered how to interact with people who brought up Christian beliefs. Now, when people tell me 'You're so blessed.' or 'God is really smiling on you' (or whatever) I just smile and say thank you. There's no need for me to go into a long conversation about my lack of faith when someone just intended a quick compliment or small talk.

Now, on FB and some other online communities, I see friends asking for prayers for a person or a cause. I want to respond positively and let them know I'm thinking about them, but to use the word 'pray' feels wrong and insincere to me, since I don't. My question for other atheists is, how do you go about other people's religious beliefs in a secular manner that doesn't offend them? (or do you not care if you offend them?)

My question for Christians is, are you offended by secular responses such as these?

I know religion is a topical issue, so when around mixed company I try my best to keep it low-key and unheated. But there are just times when it's brought up in such a context that to avoid it is almost awkward. How do you ladies (regardless of which 'side' you're on) handle that?

I usually reply "Thinking of you" or something like that.

Yep, this is what I do. "Thinking of you" or "keeping you in our thoughts"

Why don't you just say sending postive thoughts? I'm Christian and no way would be offended. But, I also know there are a wide variety of beliefs and non beliefs in society.

I say "Keeping you/her/them/etc in our thoughts"

And I agree when someone says "I'll pray for you" I thank them sincerely. After all a little prayer can't hurt! TO me it's all about putting positive thoughts into the world.

Re: Some questions for atheists, and some for Christians.

I'm a Christian and I usually say "Prayers, good vibes, happy thoughts". I don't care what other people say to me as long as I know they are sincerely wishing me well.

I am Christian and I wouldn't be offended if someone responded "sending positive thoughts your way" or "thinking of you" Sometimes when I post on a message board, I'll put "please pray for/be thinking of me...." that way I'm not making anyone who isn't christian/religious uncomfy.
