Seated height?

How do you measure that? I know Britax gives the measurements on when their seats are good until and I want to make sure I know when that is for my DS. Do you measure from their hip up to their head?

Also, I'm thinking my DS will become to tall to RF before he's outgrown the weight limit. 40lb rearfacing weight limit on our Marathon 70 and he's 25 months and 32 lbs and I think his head is approaching the top. How do you tell when it's 1 inch away from the top of the shell? This seat has the handle to adjust the headrest and straps and so it's hard to tell where the actual shell is.

Am I making sense? Sorry it's been a long day ha ha

Re: Seated height?

Are the measurements in the 20"+ range? If so, then it's sitting cross legged, floor to top of head. Torso height is floor to top of shoulder. There's a great comparison chart at from the members of car-seat.org that lists a bunch of those important measurements.

As for where the shell is...I'm not familiar enough with the new gen Britax seats to know, but I know what you're talking about. To measure 1", look at this link:

Re: Seated height?

yay! thanks for the helpful links Mama!

It says seated height maximum is 16.75 (minimum 12 for FF). So I guess that's measuring from floor to top of shoulder.

I know the shell question is tough...Let's see if I can link a pic and I can try to show you what I mean.

this isn't my son but it's a good pic to show the difficulty in gauging the 1 inch distance from the shell.

Re: Seated height?

Oh, yeah. Okay. So the Britax seats use the actual seat shell and not the head wings. I would do like they did in the photo and try to get the headwings even with the actual shell, and then find a 1" board book to put on top of his head. I'd use whatever you manage to get even with the shell itself- beside the button thingy , or if you get it even with the top of the button thingy, use that.

Re: Seated height?

Also, be sure to measure when the child is in the car seat, installed in the car. The angle of their tail bone (when sitting) makes a huge difference. I can find an extra 3" in the new Graco Size4Me for my daughter when measuring her in the seat vs on the floor.

Good luck! I hope you can keep him RF longer!
