My clothes get dark spots with liquid detergent

I haven't used fabric softner of any kind in a year or two, so it's not that here.
I don't think it's water spots either.
I first thought it was the detegent I was trying (liquid dugar recipe), but after I thought about it, I was having this issue before then when I was using the Norwex powdered detergent (usually dissolved in hot tap water).

Has anyone tried contact their appliance store to see what they had to say?

Hmm . . . I read the pp link and curious if any of that applies to you ladies.

I don't use fabric softeners, dryer sheets, no breastfeeding at the moment. One poster suggested not letting the soap mix first before adding the clothes. I'm terrible about this but would that cause this?

My theory was always that we use rags to clean everything up and it was from washing them with the clothes so I've started separating them again. We eat a lot of pb&j so I thought maybe it was grease from that or the stove that we hadn't seen.

Yes, dishsoap sometimes works for me too.

Wow, I see I'm not the only one! I really think it's from liquid detergent, at least in my case. It never happens until I try something different, which happens to be liquid.

Good idea to contact the manufacturer. Mine is a Whirlpool Duet Steam.

I will also dry dish soap on existing stained clothes.
This bugs me that I can't use a liquid detergent. It seems like that is where the most options are for HE!

I've had these for years and they come randomly (and yes, on my favorite clothes!). I don't use fabric softener and I've used all kinds of detergent...powder & liquid...homemade & store/name brand. Usually if I spray with a stain remover they come out. I have an 12 year old top loader. It's not HE & has the agitator (hoping to get something new soon!) Maybe it is that sometimes I'm not using enough detergent for the size of the load?

i have heard it comes from the dryer sheets.. but if none are used.. no idea :/
