I have to develop a Survey Monkey survey next, and I'll post it wherever it's OK to do so at that time (and will share the results somehow with the WAHMs).

There will also be questions for WAHMs, about their business, in the WAHM section.

Some starter questions ... answer some of these, or none if you just want to add your 2 cents to the discussion:

How much of your stash is WAHM made? none.

How did you decide to buy those brands (reputation, just fell in love, etc)?
n/a
How pleased have you been with your WAHM purchases (and why?)
n/a
Why don't you buy more (or any) WAHM diapers?
I am hesitant to branch out from what I know works well; I don't like wool, lol. I also don't like having to wait, customs seem like a pain, stalking sounds annoying; it's just not a user-friendly format when I have gone on to sites considering--esp. hyena cart, yuck! Also, I have read many negative stories with wham products. However, if there was something readily available and I felt like there was a great reputation and the price was good, I would consider it. I am not against wahming, per se, as I buy off etsy, but for cders, it's an investment and I need to know it will work. Just a side note, but I don't know of any cd companies that are "big box" yet, lol.
If money were no object, but all other situations were the same (WAHM stocking schedules, uncertainty about brands) would you have a fully WAHM stash? No. I like being able to get what I need when I need it. But if money were no option, I would def be more willing to try a few wahm cders.

And can I PM you if I have further questions?

TIA for helping with my project! This is so much more interesting than researching biotech or burger places! (Now I'm off to visit the Cottonbabies store, and 2 other cloth stores in the area ... I love Portland ...).

ETA: I really don't feel badly for supporting the companies I do--SB, BG--because, really, in the CD world it's not like any of these companies are proctor and gamble, kwim? Jen is a mom innovator; as well as others. Also, the stores I buy from are mom and pop, like KBTM, so even when not buying direct from a wahm, I still feel good about my purchases as I am supporting small business.

I prefer to buy bigger brands and buying from retailers. In general I find communication to be better. I know thats an unpopular sentiment. Its just been my experience. And its not every experience. Just in general

How much of your stash is WAHM made?
99% DS wears all OS fitteds & wool due to a pul allergy

How did you decide to buy those brands (reputation, just fell in love, etc)?
tried lots by buying used then sold what I didn't like & stocked up on what worked. I don't stalk diaper stockings though I do keep an eye out for sales

How pleased have you been with your WAHM purchases (and why?)
with all but 1 WAHM I have been very pleased w/ quality & CS

Why don't you buy more (or any) WAHM diapers?
right now we have a full stash, so don't need to buy any more

If money were no object, but all other situations were the same (WAHM stocking schedules, uncertainty about brands) would you have a fully WAHM stash?
buying WAHM small biz or local is a priority for our family so we spend less in some areas so we can spend more in others

And can I PM you if I have further questions?

sure

That's such a good point! And choosing to cloth diaper at all is amazing.

I'm not sure that's too unpopular; after all Bumgenius keeps growing! And so many WAHM brands that make it big end up sourcing to China.

Part of my purpose here is to find out these common threads... I think people are expressing what I'd suspected and heard before... Wahm is a great idea and often a great product but it's hard to buy!

Re: Class Project: Why do/don't you buy WAHM diapers?

How much of your stash is WAHM made?
I have about 20 WAHM diapers, about a quarter of my stash

How did you decide to buy those brands (reputation, just fell in love, etc)?
Some of them I bought because they looked cute and said they would fit the size I needed. I've been unhappy with a few WAHM diapers but the majority I love. Now I buy from WAHMs that I know will fit my daughter well either from previous purchases or working with them during testing phase and custom measurements. New WAHMs that I purchase are generally from Facebook groups that I am a part of and have developed a sort of friendship with. I know that there is a resale value for an EUC diaper if it does not fit my kiddo.

How pleased have you been with your WAHM purchases (and why?)
I have been pleases with most of my WAHM purchases. I fortunately have only had one bad experience with a WAHM that had to go to PayPal disputes. Other WAHM purchases have had excellent communication, amazing quality and fast shipping. I had one diaper that the snap was broken on arrival and she fixed it promptly and a different WAHM diaper the elastic gave out after 6 months. She replaced the elastic, no questions asked. I love the customization that is available with WAHM diapers. My 11 month old is 37 pounds and it is difficult to find diapers that fit her well commercially.

Why don't you buy more (or any) WAHM diapers?
I have been!

If money were no object, but all other situations were the same (WAHM stocking schedules, uncertainty about brands) would you have a fully WAHM stash?
definitely

And can I PM you if I have further questions?
yep

Re: Class Project: Why do/don't you buy WAHM diapers?

How much of your stash is WAHM made?

30%

How did you decide to buy those brands (reputation, just fell in love, etc)?

I knew the moms from Diaper Swappers or other forums

How pleased have you been with your WAHM purchases (and why?)

Most have been fantastic, but one brand did not sit well with me, not only did I have a problem with some of the construction, and a failure to make it right, but I didn't care for some of her postings on Facebook.

Why don't you buy more (or any) WAHM diapers?

Because I don't need any more diapers! Also, the non-WAHM diapers I have area all from a reputable US-based company that was started by a mom who started her business out of her garage, so even though there are manufacturers, they are a small business, and I really think that where one draws the line of "WAHM" is splitting hairs here because women who started small are behind all the "big brands" which are still small businesses. Almost everyone who buys a cloth diaper other than the cheap e-bay pockets, is supporting a mom in this country, so I don't feel guilty buying a name brand.

If money were no object, but all other situations were the same (WAHM stocking schedules, uncertainty about brands) would you have a fully WAHM stash?

No, because my all time favorite diaper is not a WAHM diaper, but I would have more of them, because some of them are so gosh darn cute!

And can I PM you if I have further questions?
sure

Re: Class Project: Why do/don't you buy WAHM diapers?

I don't have any wahm diapers yet. I suppose because I'm afraid to spend a lot of money on something that may be an inferior product. I realize that most are of great quality, but I'd rather play it safe and buy diapers that are tried and true.

There are so many out there too. It's hard to sift through and decide. And the good ones seem to be hard to get. I'm also unsure about resale other than the ones everyone has heard of.

Re: Class Project: Why do/don't you buy WAHM diapers?

I did too much research on diapers before I started buying and decided that there were too many small WAHM choices and there were not enough reviews, proc/cons for me to make an informed choice. I decided to just stick with the major brands because it was easier.

There was a study on jam buying in grocery shoppers. The study found that the more jam choices a shopper was faced with the less likely he was to buy jam at all. Less choices resulted in a higher likelihood of purchase. I think this is what happened to me, overwhelmed by jam.
