Re: UC Anyone?

Would you like that Emergency Childbirth PDF? It's a really quick read, about 30 min., but it covers most of what you'd need to know, especially in the case of a fast birth. If you PM me your e-mail address I can forward it to you.

I had an unintentional UC last time. My midwife got stuck behind a train and labor was crazy fast.

I have though about it but DH would NEVER agree!

I wouldn't do a UP, probably. Especially, now that I have had a loss. I like having someone to turn too.

I would LOOOOVE any resources you have. My email is placentamama@yahoo.com. Thanks!!

Is this your first UC or??

Re: UC Anyone?

I'm contemplating a UC...I would have an attended (by an OB) pregnancy, I just wouldn't leave once I went into labor. I've had 3 text book labors with zero complications. I'm not anticipating anything different this go round. I hate going to the hospital and fighting off all their 'standard operating procedure' things that I don't want (hep lock, post partum pit, etc) especially when I'm only going to be in labor for an hour LOL

I really want a homebirth, trying to talk my DH into it. I'll be buying a birth kit regardless because my labors are so fast I want something there just in case. I couldn't have a midwife because the only homebirth midwives are over an hour away. They'd NEVER make it in time.

Re: UC Anyone?

I've contemplated it, but I've had a few complications during my home birth (a shoulder dystocia with my first), and my birth center transfer (hemorrhage, with my second), that I would feel more comfortable with a MW attending to help out and keep an eye on things. I know that UC have ways of dealing with that kind of emergency, but I didn't even realize that I was hemorrhaging until they were doing manual compression and shooting me full of stuff. I was to excited over seeing the baby to take stock in what was going on.
DH and I talked about it this time and seriously considered doing it if we couldn't find a MW able to drive out, but hopefully the ones we called will turn out to be great.

Re: UC Anyone?

My last was UC (unintentionally) and this one may very well be. My midwives are an hour away and my last active labor was about 7 minutes. Because I have prodromal labor I can't recognize labor until it's active.

That said, I won't intentionally do a UC or UP. I very much liked having them there to help deliver the placenta, take care of the cleanup, do a quickie check over the babe, etc. I've needed stitches after both births too, because they are so fast, and would not want to ignore that and I can't stitch myself. And truly I value them scrubbing birth fluids out of my carpet while I snuggled with my new baby, helping me into the shower, and checking on latch. Even if they weren't there to "catch" the baby, they were worth their weight in gold!

Re: UC Anyone?

I would love the information. I am not planning UC or UP because I have had so many losses and hemorrhaging issues at birth. However, last baby was so fast I barely cleared the doors of the hospital and he was born with just one nurse in the room. I would love to read the pdf, but do not have enough posts to pm yet. Could you email it to mneds@yahoo.com? Thanks!
