Help!
Something is going on with my breasts! All day my right nipple has been tender and by night time it was really hurting to nurse. I just woke up and my boob feels like its getting really hard. It's similar to when you get engorged but I've been trying really hard to nurse it so that doesn't happen. it makes sense if its just engorged now b/c I haven't nursed him on this side since around 11. The other thing is that I'm feeling tenderness up my neck and down my arm. i looked up mastitis and I don't think really have any of the symptoms but something is up! any advice appreciated. I finally had to get out of bed b/c I was just laying there worrying about it.

Re: Help!
I'm thinking I'm jsut really engorged b/c I was nursing less on that side...that coupled with being sleepy and freaking out made me worried. It's not as bad now but it still hurts.

Re: Help!
Honestly, it sounds like it could definitely be the start of mastistis. Nurse on that side as much as you can and put warm compresses on it or take a hot shower and aim the water there. If you start to feel achy all over or develop a fever, I'd call your OB. I hope it's not that and that you are just engorged though.

Re: Help!
thanks, I'll definitely keep an eye on it. It hurts a lot to nurse but I know it'll be worse if I don't.

Re: Help!
Definitely sounds like the start of mastitis if it still hurts.
Engorgement pain/discomfort usually goes away after it is relieved. One other thing I forgot to mention above, do breast compressions on that side to make sure you are completely emptying the breast. If there is a particular area or spot that is especially tender and/or red, apply gentle pressure to that area while nursing. I know it hurts, but believe me, if it really is infected or gets infected, it's can get a lot worse. Good luck!

Re: Help!
I took a long nap and feel better (kept hearing SO saying "no charlie!" and "Whats wrong buddy"
). It's not nearly as hard and sore as it was. I'll start doing the compressions when I nurse too to be extra safe.
