Favorite early readers?
DD is in kindy. I am looking for some easy reading books for her that are not Cars, Barbie, Princess, etc. We have a ton of those. Just good stories at a very basic level she can read herself. What do your kiddos love?

If you're interested in ordering online, check out Usborne books. They are fantastic! We love them around here.

Re: Favorite early readers?
We go to the library and raid the easy readers section. There are a lot of different things out there.

Re: Favorite early readers?
My son is younger but we still have a lot of early readers around. The one that pops out in my head is actually Dr Seuss "there's no place like space", its part of the education series. It's interesting and I've thought about looking up some of the others. (we are particularly interested in space in our house)
I also recently got from the library: Is There Really a Human Race? cowritten by jamie lee curtis. Not sure if its considered an early reader but we liked it.

Re: Favorite early readers?
Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Williams (sp?)
Biscuit books (My First I Can Read Books) Wow, why am I blanking on this? We just moved out of early readers into second grade level books and now I can't remember all of the non-character ones that she loved. Some I know were from our teacher-libraries (we've both taught K, 1st, and 2nd, so we have a TON of books at the K/1 level), but there were others that she loved and I can't remember them. ![]() I would also peruse the early reader section at your public library. That will give you a good idea of what she likes and what she can read on her own. Also, if her class does a book order, the Firefly order usually has several collections of easy readers, sight word readers, and phonics readers. Those would be a good place to start, plus you can pass them down to your other kids as they start reading.

Re: Favorite early readers?
Thanks ladies! I was doing some vacation shopping, Amazon style. We are going on a trip on Thursday, so I don't want to take library books in case we lose them.

Re: Favorite early readers?
I like the old classics like Little Bear, Frog and Toad, Sam and the Firefly, Doctor Seuss Early Readers, Amelia Bedelia, My Visit to the Dinosaurs, and similar. The boys also enjoy some of the PBS character readers like Arthur and Clifford. Other than that they liked Biscuit.
