Re: Unsupervised Bathing

I can't remember with the older two, but usually my middle dd (9) takes a bath with her 3 year old sister. Sometimes she will get out before dd3 and I will be within earshot while she plays for a bit. My oldest started taking showers at age 9.5 and I stopped helping her around then. My middle and youngest still need help

He was 3.. however my son is NEVER silent. If he is then I know something is wrong. I always stay within the same part of the house.

Re: Unsupervised Bathing

Usually about six. I am paranoid about water. I usually stay in the bathroom and clean the bathroom or fold laundry. We had a brother/sister that were 5 and three drown while bathing together a few years ago in our community. The dad said he just went outside for a few minutes and came back and they had both drowned. Water makes me super paranoid.

My 3 YO DD is playing alone in the bath now while I hang out w/ my 6 mo old in my room about 5 ft away. Out of sight, but I can hear everything.

Re: Unsupervised Bathing

I want to say DS was about 4 when I started letting him bathe alone while I was within talking distance.

Re: Unsupervised Bathing

I think 5 but you need to monitor and supervised the kid when it comes to bathing. However, I'll be okay in allowing them to bathe alone by the time they reach 7 years old.

Re: Unsupervised Bathing

My 6 yr old (will be 7 in Feb.) showers alone without help - curtain closed, door open. He has been doing this for about a year with no issues. The faucet in that shower is the type you pull straight out and swing left to right to change the temp. It stays in the same spot all the time at the perfect temp and he knows not to play with it. He is kinda a worry wort so I have no fear of him moving it, the thought of being burned is a significant deterrent for him.

Our 4 and 3 yr olds shower together with DH or I in the room most of the time. We help with washing hair and supervise them washing their bodies to make sure they don't miss any key areas. We feel comfortable folding laundry (which is in the hall right outside the bathroom) or walking out to grab something, etc. while they shower.
