Overnight leaking

I am new to cloth diapering and still working out the kinks. We have FB, Alvas, and Babylands, and are using hemp inserts. One insert is not nearly enough, we get leaking every time. So, we moved to two inserts during the day, we are still getting some leaking around the legs. Overnight she leaks through every time.
I keep reading about wool and fleece for overnight. Maybe I am thinking about this wrong but it would seem like the fleece and wool would get wet and that would irritate the baby. I can picture wearing a fleece or wool sweater and how annoying that would be if it got wet in the rain or something. Can someone please explain why wool and fleece seem to be the miracle answer to overnight leaks, please?

Re: Overnight leaking

Lanolized wool soaks up and holds liquids before it leaks, so it just feels a bit moist. Doesn't seem to bother LO at all. You need a very absorbent diaper underneath. Don't count on the wool as part of your absorbency, it's just there for extra security.

In the morning you just let the wool air out and then you're ready to go. It only needs to be washed every few weeks, or when it gets dirty or starts to smell.

Sounds like part of your problem is that you need more absorbency in your night time diap. Have you tried bamboo or hemp?

Wool and fleece over a very absorbent diaper keep the moisture where it is supposed to be. These fabrics are not as prone to wicking so baby's clothes stay dry. They also breathe so baby is staying at a more comfortable temperature.

You def sound like you need a much more absorbent diaper for nightime.

Hemp is a slow absorber and works best with cotton or bamboo or even mf on top. Wool and fleece can both be bulky. Honestly, I would choose a fitted or pocket fitted with Bummis pull whisper pants or Dappi nylon pants for nights. They are light weight, gentle, very inexpensive, breathable and bulletproof

If you would like to try a pocket fitted or pocket hybrid fitted, shoot me a pm. I make them and would give a good price if you wanted to try something new.
