Egg shells?

What do you do with your egg shells? I don't have a garden or compost right now so thats out. Sometimes i throw them to the chickens but I still have plenty left over. I was reading somewhere that you can put them in a coffee grinder and make a powder to take as a calcium supplement. Any other ideas?

Re: Egg shells?

They are really good for your chickens, so that is always a good use for them. Although, some people don't like feeding them to their chickens for fear of inducing an egg eating habit. I have known some people who use the halves to plant seedlings, but that is gardening. I found this http://www.thedailygreen.com/living-green/blogs/save-money/reuse-eggshells-460809 There were a bunch of different sites claiming to have uses for eggshells. Why don't you want to feed them all to your chickens?

Re: Egg shells?

Well this year is the first time I've really had a lot to do something with but I'm putting all mine in compost hoping that it will boost my tomatoes and melons next year - NO blossom end rot!

Hope I don't kill this thread, lol. Some ideas!

I feed all of ours to the chickens. I saw this am where someone made floating candles out of the halves. You can always sear for egg shell crafts. I know you can put secret msgs on the inside by writeing on the outer and doing something? It transfurs through. Cool kiddo expiriment for the winter. Crafts are always fun for the winter. Pain and string for a pretty wind chime type of art. Loads of things like that. My G-MIL toasted in the oven and crumbled. Then added to the feed or tossed bigger crumbles to the chickens.

This is where you dye them and use as tile to use in any craft where you would use tile pieces.

Re: Egg shells?

-eggshell chalk
-cal suppliment-they are 95% pure cal
-make a gift box for something like earings
-coffe w/eggshells, seriously, lol- http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/fo...-Coffee-241190
-clarify chicken stock-
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/fo...-Coffee-241190
-use the eggshell membrane to treat a deep lip laceration or even other wounds
-make baby powder
-add to the filter with the coffee grounds and make as usual, coffee will be less bitter
- Treat Skin Irritations
Dissolve an eggshell in a small jar of apple cider vinegar (takes about two days) and use the mixture to treat minor skin irritations and itchy skin.

Lordy, the're so many uses. I'm now egged out.

Re: Egg shells?

I grind eggshells into a calcium supplement for our dogs. I wash them as I can and bake them at 350 for 10 minutes then grind them in a dedicated coffee grinder. After grinding let the grinder sit for a few minutes to let the dust settle before opening it
