how do you feel about child safety kits?

If you could get a free one, would you do it for your child? It includes fingerprint chart, instructions for taking a dna hair sample, a dental chart for primary and adult teeth, and child safe shoe labels.

Why or why not?

Yes, we have done them. It was fun for my daughter and really, why not?

In what ways would this increase or ensure safety?

Me too...I can't figure out the logic in it. I guess its the super anti-govt conspiracy theorist in me. I remember being like 5 years old and going to the police department for a field trip. They took everyones fingerprints and I refused to do it. I wasn't raised that way either so I'm not sure where it came from.

I think the theory is that if anything happened you would be able to id the kid and back it up with dna or dental records. The only part that could prevent would be the shoe labels...those have a space for phone numbers.

This. They make me very uneasy, and I won't do them with my kiddos.

I have no concerns as long as the information is only used for ID purposes.
I wouldn't want the DNA sample used for any other purpose than that explained to me - for I.D. A little concerned with there being more than one copy if there is -you need to continually update children's fingerprints because they change as they grow. "an ounce of prevention far outweighs a pound of cure"

Re: how do you feel about child safety kits?

It's really not a "safety" kit, but most parents would be put off by the real name of "identification kit." It's intended to be able to ID the childs body should something happen to them and they disappear. Fingerprints if the decay isn't too bad, dental if it is.
