Chest x-ray? That doesn't sound good. He doesn't need an advocate there while he's getting it done? I am skeered of hossy. Prior to moving here, I never went to the ER for myself without my MIL there. Hope he's okay!

An advocate? Nah. Unless you're unconscious, or might be in a situation where you can't make decisions for yourself, something like a chest x-ray shouldn't require an advocate. I have been to this ER alone and with Ru/E. Not scary by any means and I am sure he will be fine. I believe his doc is worried about pneumonia.

So, salmon in the crock was DELISH! Seriously. And because it gets wrapped in foil, you don't even have to clean the crock. I will definitely be doing that again.

Oh, good. I envisioned hacking coughing deathly ill guy getting a chest x-ray. Potential walking pneumonia is another thing.

Had chicken tortilla soup for dinner. Yum! Gonna snarf a brownie in a bit.

Re: Basically it's the weekend!

Okay, question for my northern friends. Our fireplace has a vent thingy (ash dump?) in it, where I guess you are supposed to dump the ashes which goes into a chute down to the basement. The cover on it is loose, and not metal (plastic?). I have never seen anything like this, and I'm worried about burning embers going down into the basement. And I'm not sure where to get another cover for it, IDK that a metal duct register would work (fumes from paint or finish). What are my options here?

We are going to get a chimney sweep to come clean and evaluate the chimney before we actually burn anything in it, but I was trying to get info ahead of time.

Cheryl, I imagine that the chute is intended for use only with day-old ashes. I wouldn't worry too much about embers in the basement unless your are shoveling out while the fire is burning. But if you are bringing in a sweep, I would just ask him about it when he comes.
