I think DH would veto Asterism, but I might be getting more fond of Astrid
It's the almandine and pyrope garnets found in Idaho that display asterism. Fascinating because it just shows the depth of the stone. Garnets are actually lovely in green and orange - they are so much more than the brownish-red we see at jewelry stores. In fact the demantoid garnet has a higher refractive index than a diamond - it's more sparkly! Amazing. Anyway, I didn't know that there were garnets with the star effect and it inspired me to look into it.

I worked with a lovely lady named Alma before I had children. I always pondered her name but never asked her about it.

Re: Names

We have a Keira Grace
Piper Jane (both middle names from our grandmothers) and are having a third girl which will either be Astrid, Beatrice or Georgia. No ideas on middle names yet, we just found out theses today LOL

Boy would have been Atticus Hale or Phoenix Hale (family middle name given to all males)

I have a friend named Amandine, very pretty French name that you could tie into the garnet theme.

Re: Names

those are both good suggestions. I know DH veto'ed Alma and I think I presented him with Amandine as well. He's the picky one here!

but great great suggestions!

and aren't they fascinating? You think Idaho, you think 'potatoes', but the garnets are really fascinating!

Yeah, at first I thought of garnet names since there's a bunch of types but they are pretty out there.

Rocks are awesome! I want to go dig around in Idaho now! Garnets are one of my favorites.

Well SO and I randomly got into a name conversation today. He doesn't like names that end in ia or aya so almost my whole girls list is out. He hates flowerdew (although he will go with Temperance which works, it was a family name) and Yeardley. I guess I'm starting from scratch.
