Embroidery question...

There is a place in the mall near me that does embroidery. I would love to get some dipes embroidered with Kit's name on the back. How would I go about "sealing" it, or is this a really bad idea?? Also, If it's on the hiney, it probably won't be too bad with wicking/leaking, right?? Someone help! I am headed there tomorrow if I can!

Re: Embroidery question...

I'm guessing you mean PUL? AIOs? Not sure how well that work...

One way to seal it is to cut another piece of PUL slightly larger than the embroidery and then iron the "plasticky" sides together. But are you talking about embroidering all the way through the dipe or cutting it open and just doing the PUL layer? Then you've got to put it back together?

And no, you wouldn't think that the wicking/leaking would be bad on the booty but you may be surprised. I have an AIO with a dinosaur on the booty that has suddenly started leaking straight through the embroidery. I e-mailed the WAHM and asked her about it and she said that it was reinforced with something and the only suggestion she had would be to dry it on hot to reseal the PUL and possibly treat the embroidery with one of those waterproofing sprays. But she's just sold the business to another mama so she's not losing any sleep over it . At any rate, for a show-off dipe for special occasions it probably won't be too bad but I don't know that I'd recommend it for every day use...kwim?

Good luck...if you do decide to try it out, make sure to let us know how it goes!

Re: Embroidery question...

It would probably be a pocket dipe, or possibly a cover. I'm not sure it's worth the trouble. I don't have any PUL. This is starting out to be an expensive venture. Maybe I'll just buy a new one from someone. Any suggestions?

Re: Embroidery question...

GMAR offers embroidery on prefolds, prefitteds and now covers (appliques and wording, too.)

Janette says her embroidery doesn't go all the way thru the dipe, so the inner later isn't compromised and there's no embroidery or stabilizer touching baby.
