Cut the second hole, start stuffing through the back hole, reach in the front with thumb/pointer, pinch and pull. You may need to trim down the inserts like I did in second picture. Once you get the hang of it, it gets faster and easier.

www.alvababy.com has the regular ones for $4.95 (shipping included). The minky prints are $5.95.

My son is 2 weeks old. The first week he did great with them, I guess he wasn't peeing as much. Now he leaks out the back of them. The fit looks great. I added hip snaps bc he has tiny legs. I'm wondering if I should add bamboo inserts or an additional mf insert. Does anyone have advice? I'm new to cd so I'm not sure what to do...

Maybe adding a bamboo or hemp doubler would work, or even replacing the microfiber with some kind of cotton insert. (i.e. trifolded preemie or infant prefold)

We could never get a good fit with the Alva newborn. I felt like I could never get the legs not to gap. Between that and the stuffing (never thought to cut a 2nd hole!) it went to the back of the drawer and never gets used unless the laundry's way backed up.

I am very interested on what the verdict is too. I bought a bunch after totally falling in love with the one sizes for my daughter who is 21 months. We have a baby boy on the way, so we ordered the newborns with velcro for him. I've never cd'ed a newborn before, we didn't start with dd until she was 7 or 8 months, so I'm very apprehensive about it!

I am subbing to this, too. I am considering buying an entire stash of these for the next one because I know I want to do all pockets but I don't want to spend an arm and I leg for diapers we will get barely 2 months of use out of.

I am going to try adding the bamboo insert in and i will report back. I will try stuffing with a prefold or possibly a different insert if that's not working. As far as the leg holes go - chief complaint with these diapers are the lack of hip snaps so if you do get them you should plan on adding hip snaps. My son was 9lb 2oz at birth and hip snaps were still entirely necessary.
