Anyone use a bread machine / bread maker?

Our oven has officially quit! Rather than buying one we can afford right away, we have decided to save up and buy the one we want. One thing I'm missing terribly though, is homemade bread!
Wondering if any of you use a bread machine and could point me in the direction of a good one?
I have 6 kiddos and my dh and myself, so a larger one is definately better!
Thanks!

Re: Anyone use a bread machine / bread maker?

Go to a thrift store buy whichever looks the best quality take it home and try it out. Should be $20 or less. I got my mil one for $10 or $15 and she is so thrilled with it. We have a more expensive one I bought brand new but hers does all the same things. The nice part with a bread machine is you have time for two cycles at least per day. Get one with a delayed start timer put all the ingredients in before bedtime and wake to the most delicious smell. Repeat for dinner. It is def worth it especially without an oven right now. Btw most thrift stores have toaster ovens for $10 that I've seen. If you could get a convection oven you could have a mini oven and cook bread and cookies in it.

Re: Anyone use a bread machine / bread maker?

I used a bread machine for years, it was a simple rival brand one that I got a walmart. When I got my kitchen aid a few yrs ago, I started making bread with that and sold my breadmaker in a yard sale.

I agree with pp, check out thift stores. Folks are unloading their breadmakers all the time.

We got ours brand new of craigslist. The brand is Breadman and it has held up great after 3 years of use.

Re: Anyone use a bread machine / bread maker?

I have a breadman too. I spent $50 on it off of Craigslist and am pretty happy with it. One thing I'd be cautious about is making sure all of the parts are there (mixing paddles) and that it works. I just bought a foodsaver at goodwill and it is completely broken. As in won't turn on when plugged in. Apparently goodwill doesn't even plug electronics in to make sure they work. Sigh.
