Re: Dave Ramsey Support Thread Oct 15 - Oct 21

I haven't really updated in the last couple of weeks. We've had a big month, but we did some things that Dave wouldn't approve of. We bought a new tv for our downstairs. We paid cash for it so that's a plus I guess. Well, actually we put it on the discover card to get the points and I have the money set aside to pay off when it's due in November. It even came with a $200 Best Buy gc. Anyway, I also paid off the remaining $2078 on the citicard. DH also gets his yearly bonus this week. It's going straight to the savings account. We have a trip scheduled this January. The bonus is more than enough to cover the entire trip. Then it's on to EF. Plan to be done with that by 8/13!

Frustrated about our finances. We had some stuff come up that was needed but not really planned for, now we only have enough to fill the gas tank (hopefully... With gas prices it might not be all the way full) until we either get my consigner check from the consignment sale I did, or until DH gets paid the 25th, whichever comes first. I'm annoyed, I asked the lady in charge more than a week ago when the checks would be mailed, and have yet to hear back. Would be nice to know if I have enough gas to take DD1 to church Thursday night and to go to the grocery store for WIC (we have enough food, but there are four of us on it, so I hate waiting until the end of the month to use all the checks, makes checking out take forever, and standing kills my back these days, since I'm 33 weeks pregnant), which I won't if we have to make it to the 25th. Oh, and we already drove to Costco twice this month since DH forgot to tell me we needed coffee (I never make it so I'm oblivious), and both times I asked about TP, both times he said we are fine. Nope, we have three roles left, and that's supposed to last until Nov 10th. Grr. My mom said she'd bring us a couple, but I'm too embarrassed to ask for more than two roles, so hopefully five is enough.

THEY FIXED MY SERGER THEY FIXED MY SERGER THEY FIXED IT!! (Yes, I am screaming that happily!). They originally told me they thought it would need to be replaced. I've been freaking out for a week about it, but they FIXED IT! I'm going to pick it up this afternoon. I will be SO happy to get back to work.

Glad they could fix your serger!

Afm- not much has changed, we have done pretty well sticking to our budget so far this month. my husband just got promoted, so we will get two $500 bonuses this year that I intend to put right into our savings. That makes me happy!

How am I going to make $160 work for 3-4 more years? My boys are eventually going to need new clothes and I desparately need some new clothes. I don't even have a coat that fits me this year.
That is a lot to lump in 1 category. many put groceries and household together, then clothing in another. Not sure what you are categorizing under misc? We have a monthly clothing budget, I buy nearly all my kids clothes at garage sales or from the thrift or consignment store. Sometimes if I find something they need on clearance(and I mean real clearance, not 30% off) I get it new. You could also try hosting a clothing "swap" if you know other moms in your area, it can even be virtual(we have facebook exchange groups here). Just some ideas. You can host a mom clothing swap too.

We have no medical costs, we have a second vehicle if something happened to one, and in the event of a death/family emergency, only the person being affected would go. We also planned on paying off our two small debts first, then beefing the BEF to $1k-$2k, then focus on the two larger debts. I do think dr recommend only $500 BEF if your income is low or if it will take you longer than 90 days to save up your BEF.

Sent from my iPhone using DS Forum

I really don't see us needing more than 500$ for an emergency in the next few months, DH has 3 PT jobs so even if he lost one, we would still have enough income to get by. It does feel slightly risky, but I really think we can squeak by with the smaller BEF for like 3-4 months.

Got paid from my job at the church nursery yesterday, 56$! I wasn't expecting much, I'm thinking I'll make it the christmas budget for now.

Re: Dave Ramsey Support Thread Oct 15 - Oct 21

Yay for a fixed serger.

AFM, what a day. I was doing good. Got a good workout, was just thinking what a great day it had been, when dh got home, in tears sobbing, shaking and completely not understandable. Once I got him calmed down, came to find out he almost died tonight. He was trying to load a dead tractor, he was standing on the steps while someone else was in the seat he was showing them how to work the hydraulics (that supposedly didn't work since it didn't run) it made the tractor jump and knocked dh off balance, he fell under the wheel as it started rolling. He managed to hold himself up and not get run over until on of his students could pull him out. He said it shook him up but apparently it was bad enough several of his students burst into tears because they thought he was about to die too. Well that part is good he's safe and sound, but shaken. Well, now for the financial part, when it started rolling, it had no brakes and they couldn't steer and the run away tractor hit his truck. It took out his tail gate and the back of his bed. He's put a call into insurance (it's full coverage) and we think they are going to take care of it minus our $500 deductible. So we'll see how that goes. I'm just glad he's alive and well. Trucks can fix even if I'm not excited about spending the money.
