looking for a lay midwife in the Charleston area

I've exhausted the list of licensed midwives around here and can't find anyone to do a home delivery. I'm now looking for a lay midwife if there are any here.

I'm guessing you already found Cynthia Gerard (sp?) I'd found someone on Johns Island too, but forgot her name.... Sorry I'm not much help... I ended up with Charleston Birth Place.... well, tried to.... got transferred to Trident after 42 hours of labor and ended up with an emergency C-section, but that's another story LOL - good luck!

Re: looking for a lay midwife in the Charleston area

Thanks for the suggestions.
The birth center here considers my husband to be 'unsupportive of an out-of hospital birth' because he had to attend mandatory military training two hours away during the month I was due. This led to me scrambling at 28 weeks to get prenatal care in my last pregnancy. I also had to fork out more money since I switched from standard just to use that birth center and was locked out. Brandy was my first choice and she even takes Tricare but she's on vacation that month. One other midwife didn't sit well and I don't agree with her policies. The other one I did like, but she was impossible to get to return my calls. I'm still waiting three months after agreeing to an initial consultation. I may have found a midwife in the upstate who will travel and who may take my Tricare.

I would bet my first born son that I could name the midwife that would not return your calls... Brandy delivered me at my house!!! She is so pretty and sweet and smart and I love her. I had my baby the day after her sons birthday. Well thin I was kinda in labor on his birthday but she asked me to hold it in for his party LOL!!

Yeah, Brandy seemed really nice when I talked to her. We'll be moving before the next baby or else I would just try to avoid a due date during her next vacation

Just updating this thread to say that Brandy has had her license REVOKED by the state for neglecting and abandoning many families who had hired, paid, and trusted her.
