I generally just get those cheap cotton shorts from Walmart. They're like $4 a pair.

I've also had to buy the cheap cotton pants from Walmart and cut them and hem them into shorts when it wasn't season for purchasing shorts.

They're just like tights - no pockets, no frills.

These, and this is really cheap for these. Before I loaded up on them I was buying them at childrens place for about $6 on sale.

Gymboree should have bike shorts in their storage. If you call ahead of time and give size and make an appt they should have them waiting for you when you come in. Usually they'll be under $4 if they are older prints. HTH

She needs either a 5 or a 6.

I've seen those cheap cotton shorts. Problem is (and maybe I'm getting the wrong kind??) my DD inherited my voluptuous hips and my long torso, so those shorts ride up her waist and give her a major wedgie. Plus they don't look like they'd cover much more than panties do. They look like cheerleader's shorts to me... But again, maybe I've just not seen the kind you are talking about?

As far as cutting the leggings, I could try that if worst comes to worst. I just hate to buy a perfectly good garment and then turn it into a hack job with my novice sewing skills... just seems so wasteful!

Re: good shorts for under dresses?

Sorry, they are the same size, but Target does have that size too. Just seach "bike shorts" on their site and it should come up. They are nice and soft too, as well as fitted and very stretchy. The colors are VERY bright though, not sure if that bothers you.

We like the gymboree bike shorts and leggings. I also really like the Hanna Anderson leggings from Costco.
