I caught the hour-long special and thought most of those people were smart. We're they eccentric? Yes. But I could get one board with or respect most of their cheapskate ways. I want to smack the kid on the date. He really knew how to make that girl feel special...

I caught only the end with that guy. I didn't like him at all. He kept the tags on all his clothes and then washed them in the shower (putting a baggie over the tag) so he could return the clothes later. And then to treat someone on a date that way, lets get 1 drink and 1 small entree and 1 rib and to split it all. I would have walked out on the date. I think the only reason she said on the show that she would go back out with him was because she didn't want to seem shallow. I mean seriously who would date someone like that. I would be afraid that he would reuse a condom.

No, that was one of the half hour episodes. That guy was ridiculous and I wanted to shake the girl when she said she'd go out again. I felt awful for her and pray my son is never that ridiculous! He was tacky on many levels.

The hour-long one had people shipping at thrift stores, collecting change, re-purposing items in their homes and eating non-traditional food (there were people eating goat's heads). I won't eat that stuff but kudos to them for doing so...we're a wasteful nation and I'm talking about myself too.

Ahh... I'll have to check out more episodes. I mean it was interesting but really frustrating on other levels. It did make me feel better that at least I'm not that cheap!

Me too! My hubby gets about $20 a week allowance from his paycheck. But we budget together and this is agreed upon. Plus if there is something he ( or I ) really want, we discuss it and decide if it is worth taking money out of savings for.

In his case, I do feel like it is wrong, mostly because the dad was hiding the truth about their financial status from the wife. But shame on the wife for allowing that too. She does not have to hand over her paycheck, she chooses to do that.

She was a bit too much for me....No toilet paper or family cloth at all? Gross....

agreed!! I like his "fiscal cleanse"!! I think we may need to try that. It's SO SO hard, but I bet we could get used to it.

Me too!! I have done it before and it reminded me that we need to do it again. It should be easy for us, though, as I'm a total stickpiler!

I haven't done any food stockpiling, though I need to.
