Cloth diapering and starting solids :(

We are about to start solids and have been ebf. I am do nervous about the transition... I know when LO is on more solids her poop will be slightly more plopable, but what about in between? Is there an amount of solids that I still don't have to worry? I have liners and really want to avoid a sprayer because DH refuses to use it and I don't want to start hating cloth. Share your experiences and reassure me please!

I plop or ifore guey then I let dry a not then it plops better & I use pocket part so I not directly touch. Then I wash in sink them pail. Wet pail less stinky 4 me.

Re: Cloth diapering and starting solids :(

I have a 13 month old that I started CD'ing 2 months ago, so I actually never dealt with EBF poop. Anyways, I don't have a sprayer and find that I do well with the liners if I put them in correctly. There are days where it is 'plopable' and other days where it is more like peanut butter (sorry it it is TMI) but, the liners really do work at containing both kinds of poo. Good luck! I told my husband that when we started cloth that I would handle all of the poopies, but the liners work so well for us that he will still change the poopy ones!

Re: Cloth diapering and starting solids :(

It works well to lay the diaper open on the back of the toilet and scoop/wipe out the messy ones with toilet paper and drop it straight into the toilet. I had a sprayer for the first four years of CDing and found it to be overly messy and left my dipes dripping wet, which caused extra stink in my otherwise dry pail.

I do a full cold wash with detergent before my hot wash, instead of the standard cold rinse, because wiping with TP doesn't get them quite as "gunk-free" as spraying off. But I skip the extra rinse at the end that most CDers do. Detergent buildup is so so so rare and I use cotton preflats anyway, so there is no issue of not rinsing clean.

Re: Cloth diapering and starting solids :(

It took some time after my DD started solids to notice any difference, because she wasn't really eating any significant portions for awhile. Once I noticed things getting gross, I added the liners until it was ploppable. She is almost 18 mo and I still go back to the liners sometimes, when she is sick or teething or whatever and nursing more often than usual, so her poop changes back.

Honestly, the first few solid poops were a major pain. They were too solid to wash but not solid enough to just fall into the toilet. I cant afford a diaper sprayer so now I just pay attention to when he's about to poop and hold him over a baby potty. It's way way less mess...I don't get diaper stains, and he's happier too.

I second (or third or fourth) liners. Sometimes dd's poop is plopable but not always, liners keep most of the gunk off the diaper.
