Buying sewing machine help please
I am looking at buying a sewing machine and DH occasionally works with leather (thinner stuff). I am looking for a machine that I can do basic sewing with as well as a little heavier duty for the leather.
Any ideas?

I'd look into either a vintage machine or check out some reviews on the Janome HD1000. Also, making sure you use the appropriate needle on leather is critical.

Re: Buying sewing machine help please
I love my babylock Grace (also sold as Brother Innovis40). Sews through anything.
About $400 (I know a bit higher). When I was shopping for machine 3 years ago I looked at a Janome (at a sewing machine store) that easily sewed through leather. It would have been at the same price point. I'm not sure if the Janome's sold at big box stores are the same quality as those sold in sewing stores. Also check out patternreview.com they have a whole section on sewing machine reviews from actual users. You do have to create an account, but I think it's a really valuable resource for buyers. |
