I used it to teach my DS to read. It's been a while so I can't remember all the details of how the program works, but I remember he was struggling at school and we used it at home and he totally caught on in just a few weeks. I do remember it was very simple, we basically just needed the book and we used a white board to practice writing the letters. I saved my copy, I'd totally use it again.

Re: Reading

Some people like it, but I have heard several people say it had gaps.

Most of the families in our homeschool co-op use it and love it. I tried to use it on 2 different I occasions with my ydd. She just didn't like it, which made it a hassle to get her to do it.

Do you remember where you got the book?

Re: Reading

you can get it at amazon and our local B&N has it. I looked at 100 Lessons, OPGTR, and The Reading Lesson and in the end chose The Reading Lesson. I didn't see anything that I disliked about the other 2, I just thought DS would like TRL better--so far it's working.

Re: Reading

We have both the Reading lessons and Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons and er prefer The Reading Lessons by far, in fact we LOVE it! It is a lot like Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons. It's basically a simplified version.

I used it with dd and did a little of it with ds but I wish I used something else with dd. I like that it was scripted and broken into easily managed lessons. I liked how it taught blending but it doesn't work for all kids.

Re: Reading

We checked the book out from our library. I tried reading the book and found it too dry to even read. I never tried it with DD for that reason. I knew she wouldn't go for it.

We opted for a phonics curriculum through Horizons and she has begun sounding words out on her own. She already knew her letters and sounds, I just couldn't figure out how to get her to see how they came together. We've only done a few units with the curriculum and see drastic improvement.
