Im pretty sure DS (5) has one. Is there anything i can do at home or is this something i need a doctor visit for...weve never had these before.

If it is a true UTI he needs antibiotics because it is a bacterial infection. OTC remedies may relieve symptoms but will not kill the bacteria. My dd had kidney reflux and a UTI is nothing to mess with or let go too long. The infection will move into the kidneys and cause permanent damage. Antibiotics are the only sure fire way to cure a UTI. Make sure they do a culture and sensitivity also because UTIs are often resistant to different abx.

I would take him in especially since he is a boy. It is not common for boys to get UTI's so my concern are;

1. It is some other problem.
or
2. There is an abnormality that makes him more prone to infections.

It is possible for little boys with completely normal urinary tract to get an infection but again it isn't common and a doctor should check it out since it is out of the realm of normalcy.

Yep full on UTIs need anti-biotics. If you feel like one might be starting, cranberry juice can help flush out irritants, but beyond a certain point, it's time for a doctor.

Yup, that. And it has to be 100% cranberry juice, not the Ocean Spray juice cocktails. I take cranberry supplements in pill form everyday to ward them off. I used to get them chronically, but they're kept at bay when I take the vitamins regularly!
