Re: Homeschooling Check-In Part 3

We are using the Sound Box books this year also. I check them out from the library and DS reads some of the book with me. In the back of the book it also has pictures/words for different things that start with the letter of the book.

Re: Homeschooling Check-In Part 3

Welcome raisingcropsandbabies! I kind of cracked up when I saw the post you had quoted from me....I'm pretty sure I wasn't drooling over books. Although I might if I find a good one, lol. I hadn't heard of the soundbox books before so I will check them out. It kind of sounds like they are for learning letter sounds though. Is that right? Or are they for new readers? My DS is in the first grade. He's learning to read, but struggling. He knows all his letter sounds though. He has more trouble with blending the sounds...would these help?

They are for learning the letter sounds, but a lot of the words have pictures with them to help them figure them out. My DS can sound out a majority of the words in the books and he has picked up some sight words using them.

Re: Homeschooling Check-In Part 3

Hello to all. Sorry to have been absent the last few days. We had a rough week last week and have had some sickies the past 3 days. Today was pretty good though. We got the basics done and our chicken coop is nearly finished. Unfortunately DH came home with the "sickness" today so he is in bed already. It is dreary and rainy here today, so we might snuggle up and watch a movie later. Hope all is well with everyone else.

Re: Homeschooling Check-In Part 3

We are on a morning break this morning. Keegan was getting frustrated with reading, and Rachel is just tired because she has been waking up with sinus drainage for a few days now. That girl is like her Mama--she definatly needs her sleep! We do have our reading and Bible done for the day. And Keegan is looking forward to math--he was skipping around the house this morning going "Math! Math! I LOVE math!"

Keegan and Kennah had a appointment yesterday afternoon with the ped. It went pretty well. She is going to be sending Keegan to some kind of specialist eye doctor in Springfied (Dr. Pierce...anyone been there?). I guess he specializes (sp?) in kids and particularly kids with reading issues. He's going to do some kind of very throrough eye exam and have him read and write some sentences and things like that to try to see exactly what is going on, and then he helps work out any issues. I am looking forward to that!! Kennah will be going to the autism clinic in columbia...I'm not so much looking forward to that but I do want some answers. It sounds like it will be a long wait to get in, and then a ton of testing. It breaks my heart a little but I know that she needs some more help and that we need to figure out exactly what is going on so we can get her the help that she needs. She has been getting worse over the last couple months. They will set up a treatment plan and we will go from there. In the meantime the Dr. gave us the name of a new OT to try--I can only hope this one will be better than the last one.

This thread is getting huge again...off to start another one.
