My son is afraid of the hairdryer.
The title says it all. My 16 month old son is afraid of the hair dryer. When I'm drying my hair he won't come anywhere near me, he won't even go near the thing when its off. I haven't done anything to make him afraid of it and he hasn't had a bad experience with it. He's just afraid of it. Is anyone else's baby or toddler afraid of a particular household item?

Mine actually loves the hair dryer. It calms her, which means I get my hair done.
I hope the phase passes.

Re: My son is afraid of the hairdryer.
It think it's because the hair dryer is loud.
DD is afraid of the vacuum. She's fine when it just sits there, but as soon as I turn it on, she covers her ears and runs for her room. Yup, hand dryers in public restrooms. Some really loud flush toilets bother her too.Oddly enough, the loudest thing in the house doesn't bother DD. We have an incredibly loud coffee grinder attached to the coffee maker. When it grinds, it sounds like a Harrier jet landing in the kitchen. DD likes to press the grinder button when we make coffee in the morning. Then, we all howl to the rising pitch of the grinder.

She loves getting hit with the warm hair dryer.
She hates this wind up caterpillar and will shake and cry. And she hates the rain feature on her bear which we normally set to heartbeat. She gets panicky if it gets bumped onto the rain. Trains and emergency vehicles still freak her out. They're just too loud.

Re: My son is afraid of the hairdryer.
My daughter is terrified of this little Rubber soap holder thing in my parents shower. It fell in the tub once while she was bathing, she freaked out bad and now will not go in that bathroom. I tried to bathe her there the other night and my dad came in and said the neighbors could hear her (don't worry,i only tried for a minute)

Re: My son is afraid of the hairdryer.
Yeap, that is my two year old for you!!! He is afraid of anything that makes that type of loud noise, hair dryer, vacuum, blender, lawn mower, loud public toilets, hand dryers, you get the picture.

Re: My son is afraid of the hairdryer.
Ok, so this is totally normal then. I kept thinking to myself "what have I done to make him afraid?", even though it did logically make sense since it is a strange, noisy little machine lol.
