dandruff remedy for my 10 yr old?

While braiding my daughters hair last night I noticed she has some pretty nasty dandruff. She does not have any other skin issues, so I'm assuming the cause is not washing her hair enough and using junky shampoo. It is a battle to get her to wash her hair. How can I treat this without having to use a harsh dandruff shampoo. Her hair is thick and curly if that makes any difference.

I'd try tea tree oil castile soap and make sure she is washing it good and combing through it while she is in the shower. She can use regular conditioner or even better, apple cider vinegar as conditioner. I think at this age it is just a little tough for them as the need for personal maintenance has not kicked in yet and they need lots of parental prodding and supervision. FWIW I have an almost 11yo DD and a 13yo DD and I have to help them both with their super thick, curly hair.

Something to moisturize hair. If u can maybe try wen. With my toddler we wash then use brush a bit to really get in there. My oldest we had to hold her in to get out all soap...still do some. What type of water do u have? It might make a difference if hard or something.......

What kind of shampoo is she currently using? If motivation is a problem, maybe you could get her some Sparklehearts? It's an eco and animal friendly line of bath and body products geared towards girls her age. Might make it more fun for her. If you can get her to do the tea-tree that would also help.

She has been using kids Suave. I hate that stuff but my mil bought her a huge bottle of it and funds are a bit tight so I just let her use it. When it runs out, which should be any day now, it will be replaced with something better. Thanks for the info about Sparklehearts, that looks perfect. I talked to my cousin who is a hair dresser and she said most likely it's a combo of the cheap shampoo, her not rinsing well and not using condititioner.

Thanks for the advice mamas

I was going to suggest moisturizing her scalp with coconut oil
