Snap circuit set for a 4 year old?

DS saw a snap circuit set in a magazine and asked for it for Christmas. He got really excited about it and it is the type of thing I can see him really enjoying. The age on it is 8 and up though. Do you think the set I linked below would be ok for a 4 year old.

My 4 and 6 year old LOVE snap circuits! I think they are awesome as well! You should totally get them!!!

I got my niece a snap circuit set a few years ago and all the siblings loved it.

sometimes when it's 'too old', it's just an opportunity for mom and dad to sit down and play with them until they understand how it works.

My kids would destroy that thing. But they are little monsters.

HOWEVER - I totally don't go by "ages" on the boxes of toys. Those are mostly to cover the manufacturer's behinds for lawsuits and such.

Example - some of the Little People sets have 36mos + on the box. Seriously? THREE YEARS OLD? To play with big chunky plastic dolls and a little animal farm thing? Um, no. That's ridiculous.

But the company has to account for the random kid who will actually chew the little person's hat off and then eat it and the parent who will call them panicking (and then try to file a lawsuit) because their kid ate a tiny piece of plastic. So, they put 36+ months on the box, when in reality, most kids age 6 mos would be fine with it.

I say, use YOUR discretion and common sense. If your kid would like that and would play with it, why NOT get it?
