Re: QUICK! What do you use bacon grease for?
use it to make popcorn!!!!
I've never actually tried this, but my grandma said it was the only way she'd eat popcorn in the good ole days!

Re: QUICK! What do you use bacon grease for?
Pork fat is much better for you than butter. As it is 50% monounsaturated fat whereas butter is 66% saturated fat. Keep it in a jar in the refrigerator and use a little when you make your husband some eggs.

This sounds wonderful!! You don't put any flour in the recipe? Or does the self-rising cornmeal have flour in it?

anything can be sautéed in bacon grease: eggs, green beans, potatoes, you name it ![]() I rarely use it, but sometimes it's just amazing. |

Growing up, my mom always put a little in the skillet when she made pancakes. It makes the edges crispy and golden. Delicious!!!

Re: QUICK! What do you use bacon grease for?
We save it in a bowl with a lid on our counter and then "butter" our toast with it. Really yummy. Especially on sourdough.

Re: QUICK! What do you use bacon grease for?
We raise our own pigs here & inevitably end up with more fat than needed. If you hunt deer, you can use it to mix w/the meat since there's not much fat to them. Also, it's great for making your own bird feeders - like the ones at TSC or Walmart that are all stuck together like a block of birdseed. You mix the seeds & fat & mold together.

Re: QUICK! What do you use bacon grease for?
ok, so I tried. I did try!
I failed. I suck at making bacon gravy AND biscuits. DH muscled through one. Then he smiled at me sadly and said, "I don't think I can eat anymore." Dang it.
