My mother often rides me about things he thinks are unsafe, meanwhile I remember my dad swinging us above his head in our sleeping bags like a bag of rocks :/ I am not nuts about my DH tossing the kids in the air but fortunately he is good at catching them and is equally as much their parent as I am. As much as I like to think I make all of the decisions it's not true

I have no problem with dh tossing either of the kids. They are 15 months and 2.5 years. I don't think I'd be ok with anyone else doing it. DH does toss them pretty high sometimes and he's 6' 5". Here's the reason I was trying to get others' opinions...

I took a picture of DH tossing DD up (no I won't post it here) and emailed it to some family/friends along with some other photos. We're military and rarely get to see everyone so we all send regular emails/pictures back and forth. Most of the replies I got back were along the lines of "weeee", "cool picture" and "looks like fun". Except for my parents! They freaked out and told me that it was dangerous, we'd get in trouble, etc... I would consider them overly cautious NOW. I say now because 26 years ago when my sister and I were that age, my dad wouldn't have thought twice about doing the same and there are pics to prove it. I guess the picture did look kind of crazy. DH is 6'5" and I was sitting on the ground when I took the pic, so DD does look pretty high up.

Anyways, I guess I just wanted to see what others thought... Thanks!
My MIL is the same way. DH and BIL both are toddler tossers (and now, consequently, 5 year old tossers). The boys love it! But the first time DH did it in front of MIL, she flipped out on ME, "how can you let type husband do such a thing to your child?" Play with him? But I trust my husband's reflexes, too. He's caught falling LOs from situations I can't imagine.

It always made me a bit nervous, but DH never threw them super high. However....we had a sweet 2yo with a broken femur come in the other day from being tossed. I have never seen such a distraught man.

Re: Your thoughts on tossing toddler in air?

I do it to my 17 month old and she loves it. I don't throw her high, mainly because I can't.

Having said that, I remember seeing my dad toss my little brother and wanting to throw up with anxiety. And my sister does the 'pretend to drop the baby' game, and I had to ask her not to do it around me.

This! My kiddos love it, even if it probably isn't the best. They do lots of unsafe things, so I'm not overly concerned about it.

My 6 month old loves it. Hubby and I toss dd1 back and forth between us, she loves it. If I didn't feel confident I wouldn't do it, but I understand accidents happen, so some people don't do it nor feel its safe.

Re: Your thoughts on tossing toddler in air?

DH occasionally does it and it doesn't bother me. Not usually high or in any way makes me feel that he isn't in control of the situation. My brother on the other hand, tosses his kids from one side of the room to the other (doorway to couch). That freaks me out!
