Kids at voting places?

So I didnt think about asking dh if he would be on call today so I could vote early. Now I have a(homeschooled) 7 and 5yr old that cant be left at home with daddy while I go vote-there is no one else to watch them either. Can I take them with me? I dont ever remembering seeing kids while voting before so is it something that is highly discourged or can it be done?

Update- Thanks everyone! We went They got many smiles and a couple of questioning looks We now live in a very small town so there werent many ppl and took us maybe 10mins.

Take them! My 7 year old wanted to come so bad and I would have pulled him out of school, but he had just missed 3 days for surgery. I still should have taken him.

I've taken my oldest son the last few years. I would think your kids are old enough to be behaved while there. I even take my son in with me to vote so he can see what I'm doing. I think it is a good learning experience for him.

Re: Kids at voting places?

It's not a big deal as long as your kids are well behaved. I've taken my son. I just returned from voting and there was a woman with her two kids. They just stood next to her quietly while she voted.

I have taken mine before. I agree with PP, the poll workers seem to brighten up when they see the kiddos. And they always get an 'I VOTED' sticker, too.

We go as a family! The kids know they are expected to be on their best behavior- and usually they are- we take them into the booth with us, so they can see the process, and talk to them about the importance of voting!

I called and asked last week about this. Anyone under the age of 18 is allowed in the booth with you.
