Where do I go from here?
This month will be our 19th failed month at ttc #2. While we conceived DS naturally, it took me about 6 years to get pregnant (combined, I was in a serious relationship before and which fell apart because I was enable to get pregnant, and then 3 years until I got pregnant while with DF). My Doctor prescribed me Metformin thinking that I have PCOS. She has tested my thyroid and hormone levels, and said this is the only other explanation she can think of. So I've been taking Metformin since February 2012 with no real results. My Doctor has no other plan for me besides wait until a year has passed with the Met, and if I'm not pregnant, she will refer me to the clinic's fertility specialist.
I'm feeling lost and hopeless. I wanted to have 3 or 4 children by the time I was 30. I've never had friends, I've never once in my life been to a party, I've simply spent my whole life preparing for having a family, and I feel like my dreams are dwindling away. I know I'm blessed to have my son, but I always dreamed of more children in my life, and it hurts so much as each month passes and again, nothing happens. My hopes inflated when everyone told me it would be easier now that we already had a baby, but I can see by a lot of other moms here, that this is hardly ever the case. So I'm left thinking, where do I go from here? What else do I do? Is there something else I should be mentioning to my Dr to try and get her to go another route?

Re: Where do I go from here?
Maybe tell your DR you are ready to try a more aggressive approach such as iui or ivf?
Good luck to you ((HUGS)))

Re: Where do I go from here?
I've mentioned wanting something else, even trying Clomid, that's when she brought up the fertility specialist. Maybe I'll have to push to get a recommendation to him. I just feel like I've wasted so much time already. No one wants to help us.

Hugs, I'm sorry mama. I hope you're able to get some answers and push your doc so that they are helping you more.

Re: Where do I go from here?
I'd get a 2nd opinion from a different Dr.(not necessarily even a fertility specialist). I have PCOS and I have conceived naturally, it just takes me a long time to do so. My OB is awesome and prescribed me Met and Clomid when we were ready to conceive #3, and within the month I was pregnant. It was so much better than the waiting and trying and stressing for years. Even with the PCOS the lowest dose of Clomid with timed intercourse was all I needed. Good luck mama

Re: Where do I go from here?
I have PCOS and couldn't get PG on just metformin. It had to be metformin and clomid. I agreee that you should be more agressive and ask to try at least that for a couple months. I don't see any reason why you would need to be on just the metformin for that long. I did fertility for 4 years, including up to 4 injections a day plus IUI a few times and never got PG til I did metformin and clomid and then got PG the first time with my first 3 kids on it. Good luck, I know it can be frustrating.

Re: Where do I go from here?
Unless your doctor is a specialist, I'd ask for a referral to a Reproductive Endocrinologist. Check with your insurance to see if and who they cover.
I once wasn't O'ing and TTC#3, so my regular OB/GYN (who is an AMAZING man) did some labs, U/S and tests and sent them to the RE so I didn't have to pay for any of that stuff with the RE since my insurance doesn't cover that part. I ended up not needing it after all, but I highly suggest getting a referral! After 1 year without a pregnancy, you should have been referred then! Hugs Mama.... I pray that your able to get that BFP soon!

Re: Where do I go from here?
I agree with Ariana. I think you sound ready to go to an RE.
If you don't feel ready: Before my DS, we passed the 19 month mark and I started back with yoga (needed the push to make time for myself) and newly with acupuncture. I feel that helped me as I was pg in 2-3 months but that's not for everyone.
