But what exactly do you bleed during post-partum. I know you period is the uterine lining and unfertilized egg. So what do you "bleed out" post-partum?

I believe when the placenta detaches it's like a giant 'wound'. Also your body is ridding itself of all extra fluid and tissue that accumulated durin the pregnancy.

Yup. The placental site is a giant wound...think has to grow new tissue etc. plus extra fluids and lining built up during pregnancy. Your uterus doesn't shed lining when you get pregnant and it gets nice and fluffy to support the baby and all that. So that comes out and new tissue grows.

I largely agree with PPs. To clean itself out, the uterus bleeds through all of the little blood vessels. It shrinks back down with hormones, which slows/stops the bleeding too. BF helps it to shrink faster.

We have so much extra fluid left over from pregnancy. However, It is a good idea to use chlorophyll to help rebuild your blood.
