Re: push position

Laying on my side curled up in a C. I had an induction so I was hooked up to all kinds of stuff and had an internal monitor. (Had an epidural with the first. Actually I had an epidural with this one too but it completely failed. The anesthesiologist couldn't figure out what went wrong.)

Re: push position

I actually pushed out my first child on my back! I thought that would be the last position I would ever want to push in, but it just felt right.
My second child was birthed in water, in a squatting position.

My first 2 were all natural. I gave birth to number 1 on my back and number 2 on my side.

Re: push position

i pushed in every imaginable position, when you push for 6 hours you have lots of time to try different positions , but when baby was actually born i was floating on my back in the pool with my knees up to my ears lol. that was the last position i thought i would want to be in but it just worked out that way.

Re: push position

Baby #1 - on my back, per hospital protocol
Baby #2 - on my knees, with arms hanging over side of birthing tub
Baby #3 - sitting flat on my butt with legs spread apart (ow, my tailbone hurt after that )
Baby #4 - Don't know yet! I want to deliver in a squat!

Re: push position

DS- I used a birth stool and labored on the potty and in the shower

For this child I want to utilize other options. I would like to have DH setting on a birth ball with me on my knees resting my chest and arms on him. That seems appealing to me. Maybe on all fours.

Re: push position

When I got to the hospital I got on my knees and leaned against the back of the hospital bed which was propped up in a reclining position. So a variation of hands & knees. Then they had to rush me up to L&D and when they saw my pushing wasn't totally effective they convinced and helped me turn slightly to my side after which he immediately came out. This all happened in 7 minutes total though.

Re: push position

With my first I was exhausted by the end of labor, laying on my back on the bed sobbing during contractions and sleeping in between. That's how she was born. LOL.
With my second(10.5-pounder) I was in the tub on my side with my midwife helping support my top leg.
With my third I was sitting up in the tub and delivered her into my own hands.
