Under federal law, a landlord cannot exclude renter on basis or number of children. The only exception is if a renter lives in a over 55+ community.

I'm sure it won't hurt to tell landlord though-you just don't need to!

Re: Tell landlord?

When we lived in an apt., there were fire codes (or some kind of law) that stated a max. of 2 people per bedroom. (So a 1 bed apt. = 2 people, a 2 bed. apt. = 4 people max.) When our first child was born, we were told we would have to move to a 2 bed. apt. when our lease was up.
This probably varies by location, but I would def. look up your local laws.

Re: Tell landlord?

I told my last landlord about both kids. He was a cop, and wanted to know for emergencies.

Re: Tell landlord?

my 2 cents...i never told previous landlords, but now we rent a house from a professor we call our fake uncle, so i did let him know. like someone else on here, in my last apt i even had a homebirth and didnt tell my landlord--i did tell the people downstairs just in case they thought something was terribly wrong! i think it really depends on your relationship or desired relationship with your landlord.
none on the boards, but feedback on LJ here:
