That I just start knitting leaving myself a decent length of tail, so I can adjust tension when I weave in the end. I don't do the knit with both strands in the middle of the row 'cause I can always see it.

I would also get pepper spray and a personal alarm. I know Eddie Bauer used to have both in one, it was a pepper spray with a wrist handle and if you pulled the wrist handle out a personal alarm would sound.

I use the knit in most frequently except where colors don't allow then I do the common join. I can't make the felted join work (I am always using hard to felt bases or super wash) and the Russian join is all dandy but time consuming.
