Happy Heart Babies

Recently I received a special order request from the mother of a little girl who had undergone open heart surgery as an infant. The mom requested that I put a scar on the doll's chest to make her look more like the child. I thought, what a wonderful idea. Why shouldn't dolls be made that more accurately reflect who children are as people? What a way to foster self acceptance. So I picked up some embroidery floss and fashioned a little scar on the chest of the doll and my first Happy Heart Baby was born.

Thanks! I worried at first that the idea might not be well received, but I have gotten some emails from people that have made me cry. I am thinking about making a doll with Down's syndrome, but I am hoping someone will send me a request with a picture of their child for inspiration. Thanks for you input!

I'd love a shirt with a tiny ballon over a heart. Right over my sons heart. That's what he thinks is in his heart. He grabs bits and pieces of cardiologist visits. And he tells everyone he has a balloon in his heart. <3

What a little sweetie! They surely do understand more than we think sometimes. What a good idea....a heart with a baloon over it with a smiley face on it.

Such a sweet idea. I never thought to get a doll made with a scar like DDs. My DD's scar is actually the other way and shaped so that it should be under the line of her bra when she is older. The surgeon said that is what he would do if it were his daughter. It was very touching, especially considering what a mess we were at the time.

Thanks, she's perfect. They told me it wouldn't be a blip on her health record in the future, but I didn't believe them. lol
