Re: Is it wrong to "steal" your kids halloween candy?
I voted other since for many, many, many years all halloween candy goes into a big bowl in the kitchen to be shared by all. We started that when our older ones got old enough not to go trick-or-treat (middle school so around 12-13yo). That way, the candy gets used up faster and it eliminates the fights. It would never occur to my two youngest that the candy was actually "theirs" since in their lifetimes we've never done it that way.

We are planning on doing it the same way as my parents did - we each got to go through our bags and take out anything special (full-sized bars, nifty things we hadn't seen before) and put them in a paper bag with our names on it. The rest went in one big bowl on top of the cupboard, to be shared. Otherwise, my little brother (6 years younger) never would have had any candy, as he could never go as far as us. From that big bowl, everyone shared - not just the kids.

I am going to go against the crowd and say that I do think it's wrong. I teach DD to ask nicely for things, why should I be exempt from that?
I asked her whether Mommy and Daddy could have some candy, and she was happy to share. We do the same thing with snacks or meals - *everyone* should ask nicely before taking anything, and accept it graciously.

Re: Is it wrong to "steal" your kids halloween candy?
We share food- except for dd's allergens. She does have stuff that is just hers- because dairy free butter, milk and chocolate chips are not cheap. And we have our chocolate, milk and butter. Every thing else is shared. We don't bring food (or candy in the house) that is "mine".

No way. I admit, it makes me laugh to think some think it's wrong.

Re: Is it wrong to "steal" your kids halloween candy?
Every Halloween after trick or treating we put all candy into a big Halloween bowl. The kids (how much depending on age) get to pick out candy every day til its gone. So at 1 & 3 they would only get 1 or 2 pieces. My dh and I would eat the candy also because it is now community property and we are adults so we can monitor ourselves. The little kids dont like it at first, but because they get a little everyday they get over it.
