Cost of grass fed beef
Can someone give me an idea if how much I should be paying for grass fed ground beef?
There is a place about two hours from me that delivers next day free of charge. For $450 I get the following. I think this would last us about 6 weeks (20 meals) We would still need to get pork chops and loin, sausage, bacon and eggs. But that is about all we buy: so I think I could make this work w the budget. Thoughts? Please!! 50 pounds of cuts in your freezer, ready to pull and prepare. Features Steaks 2 8oz Filet 4 12oz Sirloin 4 12oz NY Strip 1 Flank 2 8oz Flat Iron 4 12oz Ribeye Roasts 1 Rump 1 Sirloin Tip 2 Arm 2 Chuck Other 25 Ground Beef 8 Cutlets/Minute Steaks 2 Short Ribs 1 Rib Slab Last edited by Numommy; 11-06-2012 at 03:01 PM. Re: Cost of grass fed beef
That would bust my budget. $400 is my total monthly grocery budget. It is quite expensive IMO. But grass fed beef will cost more and the bundle includes some expensive cuts of meat. We rarely eat steak.

We spend right at 600 while I am working. I work 6m out of the yr, and can cut to 400 a month but it's rough. I just don't have the time to shop and prep while I am working. |

Re: Cost of grass fed beef
Is it grass fed, or organic? Ours carries organic but not grass fed

We just bought a side of beef (350 lbs) for $2.20 /lb direct from the farmer. We went in and wrapped the meat as he cut, so it took us a couple hours. I had only seen it for about $4.50-5/lb until a friend from church told us about this guy. It was super cool to talk to the guy that raised our food while we worked. We also got to pick all of the cuts we wanted.
It can be hard, bit finding a farmer is the best I think.

Your guy didn't use a middle man in that right? You don't happen to be anywhere near TN MS AL by chance do you? ETA I just looked, your about as far from here as one could get. They do have grass fed ground only for 5.99/#. I guess some is better than none. How do you get healthier pork products...or do you? Last edited by Numommy; 11-06-2012 at 07:45 AM. |

Re: Cost of grass fed beef
organic grass fed is normally about $6.99 a pound here. I stock up on it when Sprouts has it for $3.99 a pound

I totally understand convenience. While I was going through chemo, I ordered tons of food through the market day program at ds's school. It cost quite a bit more than shopping at the grocery but I was too sick to go grocery shopping. So go for it if you can afford it. It is quite expensive though. It averages out to be $9 a lb. That is a lot even with more expensive cuts included.
