Anyone else ever exposed to Fifths disease?

If so, did your little one have any complications from it? When did you deliver?

DD had it 2 weeks ago and DS has it now. I had my titers drawn 2 weeks ago and I'm not immune to it. I started seeing MFM weekly for ultrasounds and brain dopplers. MFM says they expect to induce at 35-37w.

Just curious of others' experiences.

It is really the most dangerous early in your pregnancy, I was exposed at around 4-5 weeks, DD1 had it when I was pregnant with DD2 but thankfully I was immune. DD2 was fine of course. I am sure you are okay!

I had fifths during my first pregnancy. I never had it as a kid and got it from one of my students. I got a lacy rash then after a blood draw, they found I had it. They referred me to a high risk doctor for my care. I got it at 11wks along. They gave me weekly ultrasounds until 36wks to monitor her. They look for fluid around the heart. I was induced at 40wks. I'm not sure why they want to induce so early with you. Unless the baby is having serious complications, there's no reason to induce that early. I only agreed to the induction bc I also had puppps. I'd get a second opinion on being induced so early.

Forgot to mention, she was a healthy girl with no complications other than being sunny side up. She's still healthy at 9yrs old.

I was exposed 3 times while pregnant, once by my own son, and I still have no immunity.

Definitely something to keep any eye on, I know someone who was that worst case scenario, but it's so rare for that to happen.

I wouldn't even worry at all unless you contract it, but it's good that your Dr is being proactive just in case. It's definitely not a wait and see situation if you do get it.

I keep hoping I'll get it when I'm not pregnant one of these times and not have to worry about it anymore, but no such luck.

MFM said the brain doppler (MCA) is only reliable up to 35w. After that they have no way to check for anemia. The risks, heart failure, outweigh the benefits of keeping baby in longer. That's what they tell me anyway!

But can't they keep testing you to see if you get it? If you don't catch it then the baby would be fine and it would be risky to induce so early. Everything I've read said it's very rare for it to even cross the placenta when pregnant.

I was tested with the bloodwork they did 2-3 weeks ago. It showed a recent exposure. Because of the antibodies that showed up in my results, they know at some point baby was exposed to the virus. The anemia and hydrops could occur at any time, which is why they do the weekly scan/doppler.
