New vs. Old

Just curious, how many of you think that buying new isn't worth it? I bought all new with my son 4yrs ago. I invested in 35 custom B4 fitteds (my faves) and a few pockets and hemp inserts. While it was nice to have new, the prepping was a PIA. I'm going used this time unless I HAVE to have something I can't find. Anyone else feel the same way?

I buy used whenever I can, diapers or otherwise. It saves money and resources!

Probably typing one handed while breastfeeding. My smartphone can't fix it all.

I actually enjoy the process of preping new diapers, it's satisfying to see all the yellow grease gets boiled out of the them and to know that you're starting your little one on fresh, clean, soft diapers.

With that said, I enjoy the savings from buying used even more! It's almost fulfilling to know that I'm not blowing money away giving into my CD cravings, and I don't feel so bad if one particular diaper doesn't work out.

I am a little obsessed with finding the best deal, new or used. When we first started my husband vetoed buying used at all but after he saw how much cheaper it was he has just stopped voicing an opinion and accepted it. I have a mixture of both.

Re: New vs. Old

I think it totaly depends. Buying OS for my 8 week DD as she out grows her newborn/small diaeprs I would be fine with new since I know I will get at least 2.5 to 3 years of use out of them. But in reality I am cheap so the new would have to be a great deal--like the diapersafari BOGO sale.

NB diapers that she wore for a little over a month or less used all the way.

I will still go for used over new espeically if I want to try something new/different size.

Re: New vs. Old

I prefer new. If money were no object all my son's diapers would have been new. But since money is a factor all my current prefolds and 65% of my fitteds are used. The majority of my flats at new but flats are the same price or cheaper new than used. All min were $15 a dozen new.

I only had 3 dozen infant/nb diapers. All prefolds, all new, total cost $60. 4 of my wool covers were new at $32 each the others were used at between $5-9 each.

I like buying used to try out new dipes. But I prefer buying new once I know how they fit and if they're going to work for us.

Re: New vs. Old

I far prefer to buy used, but in honest reality - the prices people are asking for used on this board are OUTRAGEOUS and I can buy NEW for LESS! I use BG Freetimes and Thirsties pockets. People want $20 for a used Freetime, and I can buy them new for $18. So while I had always planned on buying used to save some money, I have ended up buying new, saving money, AND I will be able to get a higher resale value out of them. It just made sense to buy new.
