GMD, especially the newer sizes, are more square in measurements than any others. They are also most "square" in that the edges of the fabric follow the grain, which helps make folding easy.

That being said, yes you just fold the "extra" inward and then go, it does add some absorbency. And yeah I don't care for the origami fold on newbies either, I liked the "newspaper" or "angel wing" fold (so glad my midwife taught me that at birth).

We do airplane folds, works great for rectangular flats (all of ours)
